EST Associate Editor Jorge Gardea-Torresdey Visits IGCAS TEXT SIZE: A A A

Invited by Professor FENG Xinbin of the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry (SKLEG), Prof. Jorge Gardea-Torresdey, associate editor of Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T), visited IGCAS from March 29 to 31.

Prof. Gardea presented a workshop titled “How to Get Published in Scientific & Engineering Journals” on the morning of March 30, and a research talk titled “Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology: Locating Metal Oxide Nanoparticle Transformation in Plants Using Synchrotron Techniques” on the morning of March 31, respectively. The lectures were hosted by Prof. FENG Xinbin, and attracted many professors and graduate students of the institute.

In the first workshop, Prof. Gardea presented a step-by-step tutorial on how to write scientific papers and specified key points for attention when writing a paper. He particularly reiterated the importance of academic integrity. His second talk described the study of transformation of metal oxide (such as ZnO, TiO2, CeO2 et al) nanoparticles in plants using synchrotron techniques. Both presentations were warmly accepted by the audience and inspired interactive discussions.

On the afternoon of March 30, Prof. Gardea had a small meeting with Prof. FENG Xinbin and Prof. WAN Quan’s research groups. They discussed their current projects and exchanged ideas on potential collaborations. After the group discussion, Prof. WAN Quan accompanied Prof. Gardea for a tour of the IGCAS research facilities, including the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry (SKLEG), the State Key Laboratory of Ore Deposit Geochemistry (SKLODG), and the Lunar and Planetary Science Research Center (LPSRC).

Prof. Jorge Gardea-Torresdey is currently the Chair of the Department Chemistry at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and the associate editor of ES&T. His research interests mainly focus on chemistry and environmental sciences. He has authored over 380 publications, and issued 5 US patents for environmental remediation.
