At the invitation of Prof. WANG Shijie, Director of State Key Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry (SKLEG), Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGCAS), CAS Academician FU Bojie visited SKLEG and gave a speech titled ‘Coupling Methods of Landscape Patterns and Ecological Process’ on May 14th, 2012.

FU Bojie started the speech with a brief introduction into the academic background of landscape pattern and ecological process. He pointed out the research focuses in this field and differentiated the Pattern-Process coupling through direct observation and Pattern-Process coupling based on models, and then elaborated it with rich examples.

“Landscape Ecology is still a young branch of science and in its burgeoning stage. Mutual effects of pattern and process and the Scale Effect are the essence of the subject”, FU said. His enthusiastic speech provided such a vivid picture to the audience and sparked a lively discussion behind and below the podium. He received a good round of applause at the end of his speech.

FU Bojie is a professor of Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, CAS. His major research interests are Landscape pattern and ecological processes, Land use change and environmental effects, Ecosystem services and assessment. Fu is an executive board member of International Association for Ecology (INTECOL), and Vice President of International Association of Landscape Ecology, Vice Chairman of SCOPE China, Vice Chairman of Scientific Committee of Chinese Ecosystem Research Network(CERN) and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Geography. He was invited as editorial board member of international journals of ‘Landscape Ecology”, “Soil Use Management”, “Landscape and Urban Planning” and “Sustainability Science”. He has published more than 290 scientific papers and 7 books, with about 90 papers published in the international journals.
