Abstract: The radiogenic strontium ( 87 Sr / 86 Sr) isotopic ratio in bird feathers can trace their provenances and diets at large spatial scales, which can provide a unique scientific basis for the ecological phenomenon of bird migration and spread. However, the measure ment of strontium concentration and the high-precision determination of strontium isotopes in feathers of terrestrial birds, especially migratory birds is still lack. Based on the HNO3 -H2O2 feather digestion method, the digestion temperature and digestion time were optimized, and the AG50W-X8 resin was employed to separate and purify Sr in digestions.Concentrations of Sr and isotopicratio of 87 Sr /86Srweredetermined by using inductivelycoupled plasma mass spectrometry ( ICP-MS) and multi-collectorin ductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) , respectively. Results showed that (1) using HNO3 -H2Odigestion, recoveries of reference materials and samples were 70% ~ 120% with an average of 93% at a temperature of 100 ℃ and a digestion time of 6 h; (2) the cationic resin AG50W-X8 successfully separated Rb and Sr with continuously eluate by using 2. 4 mol/L HCl, of which the elution rate of Sr was 90% ~ 110%; ( 3) Isotopic ratio of 87 Sr / 86 Sr in feathers of 10 bird species was determined, rang ng from 0. 708 118 to 0. 709 037. In this study, a high-precision determination of 87 Sr / 86 Sr in bird feathers was achieved, of which the accuracy RE was-0. 012% ~ 0. 015%, and the precision RSD was in the range of 0. 0021% ~ 0. 0042%, indicating that the measurement resultswere reliable.
