Abstract:Increasing nitrogen deposition is one of the most important characteristics of global change. It has an important impact on global food production, carbon and nitrogen cycles and environmental quality. How to effectively prevent and control the increasing in nitrogen deposition has become a hot issue in domestic and foreign research. The critical load of nitrogen deposition is used as a specific value to describe the ecosystem which is not damaged by nitrogen deposition, and it provides a useful reference for the prevention and control of nitrogen deposition. Although great progress has been made on the critical load of nitrogen deposition, there is still a lack of systematic summary of the current research status and mainstream development of the critical load of nitrogen deposition. Therefore, this article summarized the research methods of the critical load of nitrogen deposition and the application of these methods in typical ecosystems in the world, and discussed the current problems and development trends in this field. It is expected to provide reference for future related research work.

Key words:Nitrogen deposition; critical load; empirical method; ecological effect
