Abstract: This study aims to screen the best method of the available cadmium extracted from alkaline cinnamon soil in northern China, with 32 sets of coupled samples of wheat grain and root soil been collected in the cinnamon soil distribution area along a 300 kilometers range from the north to south and been analyzed for the total cadmium content. At the same time, single extraction experiment was carried out on the root soil through 9 different extraction methods with 0.43 mol/L nitric acid solution, 1mol/L hydrochloric acid solution, 0.1 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution, 0.001 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution, DTPA (1:2) extractant, DTPA (1:5) extractant, DTPA+ NaNO3 extractant, 0.01 mol/L calcium chloride, and 0.1 mol/L calcium chloride. Based on comprehensive factors such as the relative deviation between the model predicted wheat grain cadmium content and the measured content, the accuracy of predicated wheat grain cadmium content that excess the food standard, the correlation coefficient between wheat grain cadmium content and the soil extraction amount, the sizes and stability of the extraction coefficients, DTPA (1:2) extraction method is the most suitable available cadmium extraction method under the condition of alkaline cinnamon soil in northern China. The research results of this study are of great significance in the evaluation of cadmium pollution degree in agricultural soils, the risk assessment of cadmium pollution, and the formulation of cadmium pollution remediation programs.

Key words: alkaline soil; available cadmium; single extraction; DTPA(1:2)extractant
