Abstract: Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are organic compounds that persist and migrate in the environment. Due to their long-range transport and bioaccumulation, they have detrimental effects on human health and the environment. Microbial degradation has attracted widespread attention due to its eminent characteristics of innocuity, economy, and easy to get. White-rot fungi are well-known for their degradation activity of refractory organic pollutants. This review focuses on the degradation and bioremediation of typical POPs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and dioxins) by white-rot fungi, for helping provide knowledge for soil POPs pollution bioremediation using white-rot fungi.
Key words: POPs; biodegradation; white-rot fungi; soil microbial remediation
