Abstracts: In order to discuss the indication ability of magnetic susceptibility to organic matter content of soil, soil samples were collected from typical areas of Xuchang and correlations between magnetic susceptibility and organic matter content of soils were examined. The results showed that soil magnetic minerals in soils from Xuchang formed mainly by pedogenesis, Xlf values ranged from 15×10-8~125×10-8 m3/kg with a mean of 64×10-8 m3/kg, Xfd values ranged from 4.67~26.67% with a mean of 10.02%. The soil organic matter contents were from 3.74 g/kg to 31.93 g/kg with a mean was 17.09 g/kg. There no positive correlation was found between soil magnetic susceptibility and soil organic matter content, which may be because of that correlations of physical and chemical factors of soil were attenuated by long-term influences of human activities.
