Abstract: The failures of granite residual soil slope in the southeast of Guangxi Province are characterized with the frequent occurrence in rainy season, thus posing the great threats to the local residents of life, property and engineering safety, meanwhile, hindering the regional economic development. In order to understand the failure characteristics of granite residual soil slope, field surveys and statistical analysis were used to analyze the failure types, features, and the major influencing factors of slope stability. Then the corresponding prevention measures were given in this paper. Results show that four failure types of granite residual soil slope are summarized as landslide, collapse, slope mudslides and composite failure. The main control factors of slope stability include mechanical properties, structure plane, artificial slope cutting and rainfall. Based on the nature slope and artificial slope, prevention and control design should be carried out. The prevention measure for destroyed nature and artificial slope focuses on the protection on the bare sliding bed. For preventing the unstable artificial slope, structure of slope, slope stability, potential failure types and characteristics of slope should be taken into account.
