Abstract: A method of determination of bromine in coal by using pyrohydrolysis for sample digestion and ion selective electrode for further determination was proposed, and the optimum condition for the extraction of bromine from coal by pyrohydrolysis is: 0.8g of coal sample, a temperature of 1100℃, 25 min of pyrohydrolysis, 0.2L/min of oxygen flux, 0.9mL/min of water vapour, and 10 g/L NaOH for absorbing the released bromine. Results show that all bromine exist in the form of Br- in absorption liquid under the optimum condition. TISAB total ion strength adjustment buffer solution was used for ionic strength regulator for determining the content of Br- with ion selective electrode. At the test temperature of 25℃, the response time is about 1 min. Under this condition, the standard sample was pyrohydrolyzed. And the errors of multiple measurements are all within the limits of the regulations. This method can eliminate the matrix effect and memory effect of the reagent, and is economical, simple, etc. So it can be widely used in the daily analysis of bromine content in coal and other geological samples.
