Abstract: In this study, adsorption of methylene blue by banyan leaves was conducted. The influences of the adsorbent amount, pH, temperature and adsorption time on adsorption were studied. According to orthogonal experiment, when the initial concentration of banyan leaves was 100 mg/L, under the condition of 0.6 g of the dosage, 8.0 pH of solution, temperature of 35°C, and 75 minute adsorption, the banyan leaves had the highest capability for adsorbing methylene blue. The removal rate under above condition was 99.05%. The adsorption process was determined as an endothermic process based on the kinetic equation and the Freundlich isotherm equation. The results indicate that banyan leaves could be a promising adsorbent for methylene blue in wastewater.
