Abstract:In order to investigate heavy metals contamination status in Anning River, Sichuan Province, China, 9 sediment samples were collected respectively for analyzing As, Hg, Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Fe, Mn, Ba, Ti and V. Two assessment methods (sediment enrichment factor and potential ecological risk index) were employed to evaluate the severity of contamination of various heavy metals in the river. Results of these assessments show that the concentration of all heavy metals in sediment samples is higher than the background value of Sichuan Province and Yangzi River system. The middle and lower reaches have been heavily polluted by mining-induced heavy metals. The sediment enrichment factors of Ti, Ba, Mn, Cd and Zn are higher with massive pollution, and show middle and above grade pollution. The average value of RI reaches middle-grade risk level which is very harmful to environment. Especially, the ecological risk coefficient (Ei) of Cd ranges form 46.33-366.84 and reaches high-grade risk level, which should be paid more attention.
