Abstract: Biochar can enhance the carbon budget in soil and involves in the cycle of organic carbon in soil, playing a significant role in global climate change and carbon biogeochemical cycle. The dissolve organic carbon (DOC) is one of the important components of soil carbon; the study on loss of biochar as results of biochar addition is important for understanding the cycle of organic carbon in soil. By using column leaching method, the current study was carried out to investigate the application of biochar on leaching of DOC from soils from Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Henan Province, China, as well as the addition of different biochar on leaching of DOC from Xinjiang soil. The results indicate that the concentration and loss amount of DOC decreases with increasing amount of biochar addition (1%, 5%, 10%. The biochar made by the straw of maize can more significantly decrease the concentration of DOC in the leachate from Xinjiang soil than the biochar made by the mixture of straw of maize and saw dust.

Key words: biochar; dissolved organic carbon; leaching
