Abstract: This paper comprehensively analyzed the main research results for saline sediments and environmental evolution on the Tibet Plateau in recent 20 years, putting its focus on the chronology of saline sediments,  palaeoclimatic indexes, the sedimentary evolution process of salt lakes,  modern saline dynamic evolutionary process and so on. It also discussed the main contents of research on saline sediments and environmental evolution on the Tibet Plateau in the future, for example, to obtain more accurate dating methods and establish high-resolution age sequence of saline sediments, study new palaeoclimatic indexes and the comprehensive use of proxy indexes, conduct quantitative research between proxy indexes and climate factors, study regional comparison and driving mechanism of saline sediments and environmental evolution, and study saline information database platform and global change.

Key words: saline sediment; environmental evolution; research progress; Tibet Plateau
