Abstract: Soil geochemical abnormities dominated by Se located in the area of the Kailuan coal field of Tangshan and Shijiazhuang-Handan, were detected in the multi-purpose regional geochemistry survey in Hebei Plain. In this paper, the origin of abnormal Se levels in soils was investigated and ecological environment effects wereestimated using the geochemical methods, such as correlation analysis and multi-analysis. The results indicated that the atmospheric dust derived from coal combustion was the main reason for the occurrence of Se abnormities in the soil. The contents of Se in wheat and maize were higher in the abnormal field than those in the non- abnormity field. Moreover, the contents of deleterious elements were not exceedable.
