Abstract: The Lower Cambrian black rock series is well developed in the Chengkou district, Chongqing. The concentrations of Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Sb and Pb in polymetallic layer, black rock series and responding weathering soil, and silicates were measured. The results showed that in the polymetallic layer, the heavy metals are enriched, especially Cd, Zn and As, and the enrichment coefficients are 119.67, 10.73 and 7.30, respectively. The geo-accumulation index and ecological risk index methods have been used to assess the potential environmental effects. The ecological risk of Cd, As in the polymetallic layer is serious, and attention should be paid to this in future study.
