Abstract:Fluid inclusion research and application had made great progress in the first ten years of this century (from 2001 to 2010) in China. This paper provides an overview of fluid inclusion studies including PVTX study, synthetic fluid inclusions, study of ore-forming fluids and mineralization mechanisms and study of petroleum inclusions and oil and gas accumulation. In PVTX study, the use of various equations of state (EOS) on geo-fluid systems has greatly contributed to the fluid inclusion studies. Synthetic fluid inclusions have been applied to the investigation of mechanism of natural fluid inclusions formation, phase equilibrium of inclusion fluids and calibration of analytical techniques on fluid inclusion. Property of ore-forming fluids and mineralization mechanisms is always the main application of fluid inclusion study. Meanwhile, some new techniques and approaches were introduced to the research of this field, which are infrared microthermometry of fluid inclusion in ore minerals, LA-ICP-MS analyses of single fluid inclusion and fluid inclusion assemblage (FIA) method etc. The study of petroleum inclusions has played a more and more important role in the evaluation of oil and gas accumulation process and exploration. Also, some progresses have been achieved in property of mantle fluids by melt and fluid inclusion in mantle xenoliths, understanding of ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphism process by fluid inclusion and reconstruction of palaeo-environmental conditions by fluid inclusions trapped in halite from earth surface environments. In the first ten years of this century (from 2001 to 2010), studies of fluid inclusion in China advanced with international studies. Especially, the Asian Current Research on Fluid Inclusions (ACROFI) established by Chinese scholar has become one of the key international forums in the world.
