Abstract: The characteristics basalt rocks, suitable for making basalt fibers, in the western Guizhou have been explored through the rock identification, chemical composition analysis, heat-weight difference thermal test, and wire drawing test, with the combination of regional geological data. The study shows that the rocks suitable for producing basalt fibers in the western Guizhou are mainly interstitial intergranular basalt and tholeiitic basalt, with massive structure and crystallization temperatures of 1270-1400°C. Through the comparative study on the longitudinal and horizontal distribution of basalts that can be used to make basalt fibers in the western Guizhou, it is concluded that the basalts suitable for making good quality basalt fibers are distributed mainly in Zhijin County, Dafang County, Qixingguan District, Hezhang County and Weining County of Bijie City. The basalts suitable for making relatively low quality basalt fibers are distributed in Liupanshui City. The basalts distributed in the Southwestern Guizhou Prefecture and Anshun City only can be used to produce the worst quality basalt fiber.
