Abstract: 16 samples of dense basalt and 3 samples of amygdaloidal basalt are collected from different areas in Hezhang County of Guizhou Province for the wire drawing test. Factors influencing the success of basalt wire drawing test have been analyzed from the aspects of chemical composition, mineral composition, temperature of wire drawing, rotating speed of the test, and the upper limit temperature of crystallization. Finally, the possibility of basalt as raw material for the continuous basalt fiber production and the wire drawing temperature of continuous basalt fiber produced from the raw basalt ore in this area have been respectively discussed. The experimental results show that16 out of 19 samples of basalts in different areas of Hezhang County, were successfully completed the wire drawing and 3 out of 19 samples of amygdaloidal basalts were failed to have made the wire drawing, 15 of 16 dense basalts were successfully completed the wire drawing, and 2 out of 3 amygdaloidal basalts were failed to have made the wire drawing. Chemical composition and mineral composition of the dense basalt in this area mostly meet the standard of basalt for producing continuous fiber. Thus, the dense basalt has very important development and utilization values. It is suggested that the wire drawing temperature should be higher than 1350 ℃ in the process of continuous fiber production from the dense basalt in this area.
