Abstract: Permeable reactive barrier (PRB) technology is an efficient and practical method for the in-situ remediation of groundwater. Reactive materials belong to the core of the PRB technology. Conventional reactive materials that are most commonly used with the PRB are iron-based materials, which usually have problems of easy oxidation and blocking. In this review, based on characteristics of crystal structures of three typical types of mineral materials including iron-bearing minerals, framework/layer structured minerals, and apatite, we have introduced principles and research progresses of the application of those three types of minerals as the PRB reactive medias and have discussed some limitations in the current researches and important development directions in the future researches.
