Abstract: The Hatu gold mine is the largest one in Xinjiang Autonomous Region in terms of mining and production scales. Based on the adit exploration in the central and eastern ore blocks and the drilling in the western ore block of the deposit, a primary halo geochemical survey has been carried out in this paper. 159 samples were collected from ore bodies and wall rocks in the central and eastern ore blocks, and 54 samples were collected from cores, at equal interval, of drilling holes in the western ore block. These samples are analyzed for 12 elements including Hg, Au, Ni, Pb, As, Sb, Cu, W, Zn, Ag, Mo, and Bi. Through the geochemical research, it is found that there are front halo elements of Hg-As-Sb, near orebody elements of Ag-Cu-Zn-Mo, rear halo elements of W-Bi-Ni in the Hatu gold deposit, with the primary halo axial zonation sequence of Au, Pb-Hg-As, Ag-W-Sb, Bi-Zn, Cu, Ni, Mo for orebodies in the central and eastern ore blocks and that of Bi, Zn, Hg-Pb-Sb-Cu-W, As- Ag, Ni-Mo-Au for orebodies in the western ore block. The phenomena of "reverse zonation" and "coexistence of front and rear halos" appeared in primary halos for orebodies in the western ore block could be caused by the influence of pinchout and reappearance of the echelon ore-bearing structure, as the primary halo has a feature of superimposition and the vertical geochemical parameters were obviously varied. Combining with data of regional geology and mineral resources, it is inferred that the prospecting potential of mineral resource in depth in the western ore block is greater than that in the central and eastern ore blocks in the Hatu gold deposit.

Keywords: Hatu gold mine; primary halo; axial zonation sequence; prediction for mineral exploration in depth
