Abstract: In this paper, methods of electron probe and BSE images revealed chemical composition characters and the relationship between color and zoning structure of Malipo emeralds from Yunnan, which analysed reasons of zoning structure. It represented that Yunnan emeralds were rich in vanadium, but poor in chromium, these elements caused the distinction of color zone. The dark zones corresponded to enrich concentrations of Cr and V. Also, the changing concentration of Fe indicated that emerald growing environment may turn from oxidation at early stage into deoxidation. The zonation, combined with multiple mineralizing activities, reflected that crystalization growth had the character of multiple stages.
