Abstract: Sareke copper deposit located in Wuqia County, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, is one of the most massive stratiform copper deposits. Ore-body exclusively occurs in the upper Jurassic Kuzigongsu group (J3k), and the lithology is mainly conglomerate and glutenite. The deposit develops clear vetical mineraliztion zoning of “chalcocite-bornite-chalcopyrite-pyrite”, and variegated strata combination, similar to typical sandstone type copper deposit. Through systematic field survey and microscopic observation, combining fabric characteristics of minerals, metal mineral and gangue mineral composition and structure relationship characteristics analysis, it is summarized that the genesis of Sarake copper deposit is related to the activity of basin brine cryogenic that is low-medium temperature and high salinity hydrothermal fluid. Accordingly, the mineralization can be divided into three periods, including sedimentary mineralization period, hydrothermal reformation period and supergene enrichment period, respectively.
