Abstract: Based on comprehensive study on elemental and organic geochemistry of Dawuba Formation from Well CY1 in Changshun area, Guizhou Province, China, the forming environment and petroleum geologic significance for Dawuba black shale in Southern Guizhou Province, China were discussed. The research show that contents of K2O and Al2O3 are relative high and MnO is relative low; Sr is relative high and the other elements are relative low. The distribution characteristics of V/(V+Ni), U/Th, V/Cr, Ni/Co and δU reflect that the environment during Dawuba sedimentary period is weak oxidation to weak reduction. The organic matters belong to TypeⅡwith the average content of TOC being 3.5% and local formations of lower than 2.0%. Results show that the Dawuba Formation has high shale gas potential.
