Abstract: Based on CIE 1976 L*a*b* Uniform Color Space, the measurements of L*, a*, and b* of tourmaline color red were conducted under illuminant D65. Furthermore, C* and ho of tourmaline color red were calculated. To obtain the color parameters of tourmaline color red, the experiment simulate on Color iControl. Therefore, the best lighting illuminant can be determined. Compared with the spectral power distribution of illuminant D65, illuminant A and illuminant CWF, following results were obtained. The spectral power distribution of illuminant D65 is continuous, relatively smooth and of high color temperature. Combined with statistic analysis, the experiment found that the influence of illuminants change on L* of tourmaline color red is little. Illumiant A is the most beneficial illuminant to improve C* and L* of tourmaline color red. In conclusion, illuminant A is the best lighting illuminant for tourmaline color red and illuminant D65 could be the best illuminant to evaluate tourmaline color red.
