Abstract: The effect of polymeric depressant on chlorite flotation has been studied by flotation experiments, contact angle tests, adsorption tests and settlement experiments, and its mechanism was also discussed. Results show that chlorite has certain natural flotability and can come into the concentrate by flotation. Fine grained chlorite can also come into the concentrate by entrainment and its flotation recovery is higher than the coarse grained chlorite. Macromolecule depressant starch can reduce chlorite surface hydrophobicity and flocculate fine grained chlorite, increase the chlorite apparent particle size and reduce entrainment, thus can fully depress the chlorite flotation. Dispersant sodium silicate can reduce chlorite surface hydrophobicity, but will make the chlorite grain more dispersion and not be able to reduce the entrainment, thus can’t completely depress chlorite flotation.
