Abstract:Dissolution behaviour of apatite in magma plays an important role in understanding the evolution of melts, differentiation of trace elements (such as REE, U, Th, Sr, etc.), and the formation of metasomatic fluids in the mantle. This paper reviews the impact of, of temperature, composition (SiO2, CaO, Al2O3, S, etc.) and temperature of silicate melts, and CaO content in carbonate melts on the solubility of apatite in magma. It introduces the established models for solubility and uses the model to explain actual examples of the natural rock- and mineralization-forming processes. This research also indicates that more work needs to be done in the future on the impact of pressure, halogen and high-pressure fluid affecting the behaviour of apatite dissolution.
