Abstract: Black rock series, as the source for many polymetallic deposits, have particular important economic and scientific research value, drawing wide attention of scholars. Numerous deposits are widely distributed in the lower Cambrian black rock series in South China, such as the Ni-Mo, V and PGE ore deposits. Simultaneously, shale gas is also occurs widely in the lower Cambrian black rock series. Thus, it is necessary to research the genetic relationships between them. This paper reviews some geochemical characteristics of the black rock series, especially organic geochemical characteristics, with the aim to reveal association between metal mineralization and shale gas accumulation.

Keywords: black rock series; mineral deposits hosted in black rock series; shale gas reservoir; coupling relationship; favorable development areas
