Abstract: Rhenium is one of the rarest elements in the earth crust. Rhenium minerals are very rare and have not previously been found in China. However, in studying the minerals in the typical magmatic sulphide deposit copper-nickel deposit in Yangliuping area, Sichuan Province, China, tetragonal rhenium mineral with the simplified chemical formula (Re,Cu,Os,Fe,Ni,Pb)1S2 (IMA CNMNC-SUM assigned number :UM2014-01-S:Re) and a trigonal rhenium mineral with the simplified formula (Re, Cu, Fe)1S2 (IMA CNMNC-SUM assigned number :UM2014-01-S:Re). Both differ from the rhenium minerals reported to date in composition and structure as determined by electron diffraction spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy although an electron probe analysis and single-crystal determination needs to be done. Even though we haven’t submitted the formal submission and got approval of the two minerals as accepted new mineral species, based on the composition and structure date, IMA CNMNC-SUM had assigned the unnamed number of the two minerals, so we got the precedence for claim. Therefore, the two rhenium minerals may represent new mineral species.
