Formation of Jarosite and Its Effects on Bioleaching of Copper from Waste Printed Circuit Boards by Acidithiobacillus Ferrooxidans TEXT SIZE: A A A

AbstractFormation of jarosite and its effect on bioleaching of copper from waste printed circuit boards by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans were investigated under the bioleaching column condition. The results show that jarosite formed in the bioleaching column is the main factor for the efficiency of copper leached. As the pH value is 2.20, the content of Fe3+ and higher ORP values can be maintained. Meanwhile,  the amount of production of jarosite is reduced. When there are bacteria in the column, jarosite can be produced under the control or uncontrolled acids conditions. Low pH value (pH2.50) with adding acid can keep bioleaching with relatively low  content of jarosite.
