Abstract: The “house of cards” magnesium hydroxide was prepared based on the mechanism of the “house of cards” clay mineral. Crude ammonium sulfate leaching liquid prepared from asbestos tailings, as the raw material, was used to prepare “house of cards” magnesium hydroxide. Influence of aging time on the “house of cards” structure and yield rate of Mg(OH)2 was investigated. The results show that “house of cards” magnesium hydroxide can be prepared by using 1:1 water/alcohol systems at pH of 10.2 via simultaneous injection. The crystal diameter of Mg(OH)2 increases obviously and the crystal length increases slightly with increasing aging time. The pores of “house of cards” structure increase, and fillings and connectivity of the pores decrease with increasing aging time. The yield rate of Mg(OH)2 reaches 95% from 85% with aging time from 0 to 9 h.
