On invitation of Graduate Student Association with the Institute of Geochemistry, Prof. ZHANG Xinbao from Institute of Mountain Hazard and Environment (CAS) delivered two reports entitled “Land desertification, soil loss and balance of Silicate
minerals in karst region” and “Disputation about reconstruction of Wenchuan county town”. It is the second Series of Experts Forum which was sponsored by Graduate Student Association and was supported by education division of IGCAS.
At the first presentation, he introduced his research work in karst region in these several years, mainly illustrated soil loss and balance of Silicate minerals in karst region and compared the scientific connotation between rocky desertification and land desertification. He pointed out the mechanism of land desertification that was caused and impacted by agriculture and proposed some relevant strategies and treatments to bring the land desertification under control. Then, he warmly discussed with scholars and students of IGCAS. After that, he also analysis the disputation about the reconstruction of Wenchuan county town from a scientific perspective at the second presentation.
ZHANG Xinbao is a professor of Mountain Hazard and Environment (CAS) and serves as the Vice President of International Commission on Continental Erosion in 2007.
