Professor FENG Xinbin and Associate Professors LI Zhonggen and LI Ping from Institue of Geochemistry, Chines Academy of Sciences (IGCAS) attended the 16th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment (ICHMET) held in Rome, Italy from 22nd to 27th September, 2012.
Professor FENG Xinbin chaired the session of “Analytical Chemistry” and gave an oral presentation entitled “Observation of atmospheric Hg species and depositions in remote areas of China” in the session of “Heavy metal in the atmosphere”.
In the session of “Heavy Metals in Contaminated Sites”, Associate Professors LI Zhonggen and LI Ping gave the oral presentations entitled “Heavy Metals in the Ground Surface Dust and Agricultural Soil in Artisanal and Medium scale Zinc Smelting Area in Northwest Guizhou Province, China” and “Mercury speciation and mobility in mine wastes from mercury mines in China”, respectively.
Professor FENG Xinbin won the right to host the next conference on behalf of China and he will serve as the Chairman of 17th ICHMET. 17th ICHMET will be held in Guiyang, China from 22nd to 26th September, 2014,
At the closing ceremony, Professor FENG Xinbin introduced the preparation of the next conference and welcomed the participants to attend it in Guiyang. Additionally, he gave an overview of the geographic location of Guiyang City, the venue and facilities of the next conference, and the scenic areas and ethnic customs of Guizhou Province.
ICHMET is a unique event in the environmental science congress calendar. It does not focus on either a specific metal, or on a specific environmental compartment or medium, but is aimed to provide a unique platform for discussing and presenting state-of-the-art research activities to a broad international scientific community. ICHMET does not concentrate on solely on sources, or transport or remediation, instead it provides a multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary forum where an individual's or group's expertise can become part of a broader context.
